Parole Board

The New Zealand Parole Board makes public safety decisions about the managed release of long-term prisoners. Parole aids reintegration, by permitting eligible offenders to finish their sentence in the community, subject to conditions set by the Board.

Navigating the complexities of Parole, Extended Supervision and Recall requires specialist knowledge. Michael is dedicated to guiding you through this process, advocating for your rights, and ensuring a thorough understanding of the parole process in New Zealand.

Michael is able to file reviews and appeals following unsuccessful Parole applications, as well as undertaking appeals and judicial reviews to the High Court. He can also make applications for early Parole hearings and compassionate Parole.

Michael is one of the most experienced Parole Board lawyers in New Zealand, having been involved in Parole hearings since the Parole Act was introduced in July 2002. Although based in Christchurch, Michael can often appear for clients in other regions via Video Link.

The majority of his Parole clients are eligible for Legal Aid.
